Things aren't always what they seem

Builders who quote to build homes on ‘square meter’ or ‘per square’ basis should recognize that such an approach is fraught with financial dangers.

These three buildings have the same floor area of 100m2. But with different perimeters and geometry they vary by as much as 22% in cost.
While each design creates a floor area of 100m2, the perimeter of house A measures 40 lineal meters, while house B’s is 12 percent greater at 50 lineal meters and house C’s perimeter at 52 lineal meters is 14.4 percent greater than house A.
